Biography:
I was born and raised in Owosso, Mi. I come from a family where everyone is creative. I have been drawing and making things for as long as I can remember. After high school I chose a career path that was largely left brained. I was confident enough in my creativity that I felt like I could come back to a right brained lifestyle on my own if I chose to in the future.
After many years in the racing industry I found myself without a job and dove into my art. At that time I had been drawing from the figure for two years. I started selling at art fairs and galleries, it felt great!
Now I have another left brained job and continue to forge ahead with my more rewarding right brained activities. I draw from the figure at least once a week and have been now for seven years. Aside from that the only training I've had was in high school and one cultural enrichment in college.
Artist Statement
The arts to me is like yoga for your brain. I want to create work that explores the human condition. I want to ask who are we? Many of the ideas I have are of paintings that involve people. These images display the current direction of my figurative work and serve as a sort of stylized base for future projects. My ideas are endless as one always leads to multiple others.
I feel as though color is to me what hair was to Samson. Color gives me strengh and helps to spark the inferno of imagination that burns within me. Color helps to lift my spirits and augments intellectual activity. This explains the use of color in my work.
I think its easy to look at the works in their entirety and pull a common thread through all while at the same time noticing the differences. Overall I believe my body of work is imaginative and colorful like a Red Hot Chili Peppers song, as timeless as a Jim Croce song, and just flat out rocks like Led Zeppelin! |
